Courtroom Experience

For decades, Robin represented indigent defendants as a court appointed attorney. She served as one of three in-house court appointed attorneys for a local district court. Robin went to court daily, handling all types of criminal cases ranging from traffic violations to assaultive crimes, and worked with clients from their initial court appearance until the matter was adjudicated by way of plea, trial, or otherwise.

Daily court appearances allowed Robin to file and argue motions, conduct evidentiary hearings, and collaborate with court personnel—from administration and probation departments to court staff—ensuring efficient handling of client matters. Her constant presence in the courtroom also kept her informed of legislative and procedural changes as they occurred, allowing her to stay current with evolving legal standards and practices.

Robin not only possesses a deep understanding of the law from the defense perspective but also brings a well-rounded legal background as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the Townships of Canton, Plymouth, and Northville. This dual experience highlights her comprehensive skills as a courtroom practitioner and underscores her ability to navigate both sides of the legal system effectively.

Trial Experience

Robin has conducted a significant number of trials, honing her skills in various critical aspects of courtroom practice. She has crafted voir dire questions, prepared jury instructions, and actively participated in cross and direct examinations of witnesses, including police officers, experts, and ordinary citizens. Her deep understanding of the nuances of trial proceedings ensures that those who appear before her will be treated fairly and in accordance with the law.

Treatment Court Experience

Treatment courts are specialized court programs aimed at addressing the underlying issues contributing to criminal behavior, such as substance abuse and mental health disorders. Robin’s daily courtroom experience has given her extensive exposure to treatment courts, where she has successfully assisted clients in accessing various programs throughout southeastern Michigan. As a member of the Michigan Association of Treatment Court Professionals and the only candidate with hands-on experience as a team member of a treatment court program, Robin is uniquely positioned to understand and support these critical interventions. She believes that addressing underlying issues not only reduces recidivism but also significantly benefits the community by saving lives and promoting long- term rehabilitation.
